Sleep Isn't the Only Thing That Keeps Your Body Going
Food is fuel for the body and just like sleep it is necessary that we give our body rich and healthy food. Eating nourishing food has been scientifically found to increase life spans and lessen the chance of illness.
Have you ever been so hungry that your mood shifts because of this hole-like feeling in your stomach? It sure has happened to me! Having good food and a good food routine is essential to our every day lives. Since attitude is the key to success then food plays a big part in this because our attitude changes when we are hungry or feel extreme fatigue because of the food we have eaten.
Effects of eating poorly:
- Low energy levels
- inability to fight diseases ( low immunity)
- Affected mood
- Long-term cognitive function problems
Benefits of a good nutrition:
- longer life span
- Saves you money
being sick is expensive!
- Healthy weight
- Delays effects of aging
- Higher energy levels throughout the day
- Increased focus
- Better digestion
Eating Healthy on a Budget
The most common replies when asked why one doesn't have a good nourished diet are "eating organic is for the rich" or simply "I don't have time." I'm sure we have all heard these excuses before and while buying all organic food can be pricey it is not the only choice.
If you are on a budget you can buy ingredients in your local supermarket that are still fresh and use the internet to be CREATIVE and build delicious meals that not only satisfy your health but also your cravings.
As for the busy schedule something one can do is meal prep. Meal prepping has become a phenomenon on the internet because it is cost and time efficient. Sundays, which are already reset days, can be the start of your meal prep journey. In air tight containers select a source of protein, carbs and fat and pre cook those to then store. This is perfect for college students, working parents, if you have a tight weekly schedule, or simply if you want to have an organized diet throughout the week and not have to think about what to cook every day.
Example of meal prepping!
Foodie Recommendations
It wouldn't be a blog if I didn't recommend a podcast!
I have been transitioning from listening to music while I walk to listening to podcasts for some months now and this past week I listened to a podcast called "Within You" by Rebecca Leigh and it gave insightful tips about building a good relationship with food. It mentions how to heal your gut because gut health is so important. Your gut is what breaks down food and retrieves the nutrients from food that your body can retain.
My all time favorite sites to be inspired by food are Love and Lemons and The Stay at Home Chef. Both of these sites have helped me be creative in the kitchen and cook some delicious and nurturing food. The recipes on here are also easy to make because they list step by step and even tips to have you thinking you are a professional chef.
